My little sunflower

You were once all I wanted
Deep, silent, complete

I kept you save and took you home
Bright, light, mesmerizing

You made someone feel perfect before me
Loyal, tender, solid

I would have given you to my daughter
And she would do the same with hers
And the ones I wouldn't get to know
My love would stay alive forever

Now you remain without purpose
Dark, silent, alone

But I still can't let you go

Build me up

Rain on my windshield, sun blinding my view
Short nights and early mornings
The birds promise a change

Warm sweater, cold feet
Gazing stars and breathe out cold
A longing to stay

Skin begging for sunlight and warmth from within
Turn the wind, taste the salt
The need for air is crucial

Songs of joy and wishful thinking
Wars on TV
Coat on, coat off

Nothing is ever more confusing
than Spring

Piggy Parade

March away
Break the promises
And everything else you took

March away
I killed your bears
They melted in fire

March away
Keep your head down
As you pass by

March away
With lowered shoulders
Staring at the ground

March away
To your new life
I won't turn around

Remember Remember

Dancing lights in your eyes
While the darkness embraces you
Black like liquorice
Little sparks of hope and joy

I hear laughter and songs
nearby and far away
Some people close doors
but mine is open

While this month leaves its mark
On every person touched
I ask you to remember
The eleventh of November

Intentionally

You told me it broke your heart to see me suffer
You told her it broke your heart to walk away from her
The same day

But you never intended to keep it that way
When you made the decision to stay out of public places
You knew what you were doing was wrong

Though you kept on making promises
That you would fight for me
While you promised her the world, secretly

When I asked you if you wanted to see my wedding dress
The symbol of my devotion to you
You told me that it would be too definite

You told me you could never live without me
While you touched me so lovingly
Just a week before you left

The games you played
The lies you told
Did you both laugh as I fell apart?

Illuminated

I have watched the end of the day
And saw the clock reach twelve
The date changed to twenty-nine

I have watched the end of the day
And witnessed the beginning
Of a life without you

I’m ready.
